Race Day Wrap Up
This was Mountain Junkies LLC's 27th event and it was a great morning.  Thank you for coming out and enjoying a morning of running.  The Fab 5k was the first race that we both directed and promoted back in 2007.  Since then the race has grown and this year we finally crossed and blew past the 300 runner mark with a total of 402 finishers.

Race morning the heat finally broke and it was a cool 70 degrees at the start.  The fact that this is a money race and that it falls right before the school year helps create one of the most competitive fields of all the races in the Roanoke Valley.   This year the course was dry and fast.

As a race recap:  The race had a wide range of ages that stretched from Mackenzie Willmott age 5 to Wayne Thomas age 68.  There were 87 runners under the age of 18.  48 runners under 20 minutes.  Concord University came out after a week of running in their xc camp and took 5 of the top 6 places.  Michael Tarpey snuck in their to keep Concord from taking in all.  In addition, we had an even split of 201 male and 201 female runners.  What a great mix.

In addition, we had a lot of runners state that this was their first race and many who had lost a lot of weight and decided to give themselves another challenge.  Congratulation to all of you.  I hope this race was a positive experience.  Whether you are running it competitively or just to finish, participating in a race is a big deal and an accomplishment.  You did something that most people will never do.  Thank you for coming out.

You are better than you think you are,
